WTC Respiratory Illness Lawsuits

We will never forget the events that took place on September 11, 2001.

The images from that day have been etched into our collective consciousness forever.  No one can forget the pictures of the planes, the plumes of smoke, the cloud of dust that enveloped endless city blocks, the people running everywhere, or the turmoil of that day.

But from this event, there were images of unity and patriotism that will also never be forgotten.  Firefighters, policemen, and rescue workers forming search teams and searching for survivors in the midst of the chaos.  All over the country, American flags being put on display.

The tragedy of 9/11 affected more than just the island of Manhattan.  While the dust was still settling, volunteers from the Bronx, Queens, Coney Island, and Staten Island all poured into Ground Zero to launch rescue and cleanup efforts.  In the coming days and weeks, volunteers from all over the country united and came to New York City to help a city that was desperately in need.  In the aftermath of the events of that day now years past, we find people armed with machine guns at airport security checkpoints, and many thousands of our young men and women halfway around the world in countries like Afghanistan and Iraq.

Unfortunately, there was as secondary aftermath from the tragedy of 9/11 that we weren’t prepared for.  In the midst of the debris and chaos, a more latent danger has begun to affect the lives of many more Americans.

When the World Trade Center towers collapsed, huge clouds of dirt and dust stretched across the city.  Released in these clouds were millions of microscopic particles.  Among these were particles of asbestos, mercury, lead, silica, polyvinyl chloride and other harmful materials.  The firefighters, police officers, EMTs, construction workers, and other volunteers working around the clock were exposed to these hazardous particles in the minutes, days, and weeks after 9/11.

Health officials know, these exposures may lead to a variety of serious disorders, including but not limited to, occupational asthma ("WTC Cough"), chronic bronchitis, asbestosis, mesothelioma, silicosis, emphysema ,various cancers, and respiratory problems.
